How to File an Ethics Complaint

REALTORS® voluntarily subscribe to a strict Code of Ethics. If you believe a REALTOR® has violated the Code, here is how to file a complaint.

Filing Options

Where to File a Complaint

Depending on the nature of your complaint, you may file through WAOR/NAR, TREC, or the Texas Association of REALTORS®. Choose the appropriate channel based on the violation you experienced.

WAOR / NAR Ethics Complaint

For Code of Ethics violations

If you believe a REALTOR® has violated one or more Articles of the Code of Ethics, you can file an ethics complaint through WAOR or the National Association of REALTORS®.

TREC Complaint

For license law violations

If you believe there has been a violation of the Real Estate License Act or TREC rules, you have the right to file a complaint with the Texas Real Estate Commission (TREC).

State-level ethics resources

The Texas Association of REALTORS® provides additional resources and guidance for filing ethics complaints at the state level.

Important: REALTORS® are different from non-member licensees in that they voluntarily subscribe to a strict Code of Ethics. Not all real estate agents are REALTORS®. Ethics complaints through WAOR/NAR apply only to REALTOR® members. For license law violations (which apply to all licensees), file with TREC.
